    Cody Gardiman and Colby McKay took aim during a game of laser tag yesterday in conjunction with Canada Day celebrations at Pither’s Point Park. Other activities there included a volleyball competition, bathtub races, a kids’ 1K run, and 50/50 bingo.

    Debbie Barnard and Pam Bujold held onto Maggie Carlson’s hands during the “survivors’ lap” of this year’s “Relay for Life” held overnight Friday at Pither’s Point. This lap, which kicked off the 12-hour event, was made to honour those who had survived after being diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives.

$10,000 windfall for Fort woman

Donna Williamson of Fort Frances was the $10,000 grand prize winner of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care’s “Canada Day Cash Lottery” fundraiser raffle.
Winning $2,000 was Barb Turgeon of Fort Frances while Marie Kreger of Rainy River won the $1,000 prize up for grabs.

Fire hazard ‘low’ for now

The Ministry of Natural Resources reported no new fires this past week.
The fire hazard is “low” across most of the West Fire Region, with the exception of a small pocket in Fort Frances District that’s considered “moderate.”
But that doesn’t mean those spending time outdoors should let their guard down, MNR fire information officer Travis Moffat stressed this morning.
